U-matic is a videocassette format introduced by Sony in 1969. It was among the first video formats to contain the tape inside a cassette, as opposed to the open-reel format. The video tape is 3/4" wide, so this format is often called 'three-quarter'. U-matic was named after the shape of the tape path when it was threaded around the video head, which resembled the letter U.
U-Matic saw even more success from the television broadcast industry in the mid-1970s, when a number of local TV stations and national TV networks utilized the format. Let us transfer your U-matic to DVD or create digital mp4 files. |
